Decision making in integratedwatershed management typically concerns several stakeholders with conflictingviews. The most critical issue in the watershed management process is theactive involvement of a range of stakeholder groups in the process in order toprovide support for the implementation of watershed management strategies. Thisstudy offers a systematic approach and analytical means to have the optimalwatershed management strategy in order to protect and restore aquaticecosystems, human health, and other natural resources in BeyÅŸehir Lake Basin, the largest freshwater lake in Turkey. As a methodology SWOT (Strengths,Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats)–AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process)framework is used to identify differences among the knowledge, experiences, values, and interests of three different stakeholder groups (local communities, localauthorities, and experts) regarding optimal watershed management strategy. Thestudy illustrates the feasibility of combined uses of SWOT–AHP in incorporatingstakeholder preferences to the decision making process of integrated watershedmanagement. Such an explicit decision making process leads to more sustainablewatershed planning and management decisions as well as foster increasedcommunity capacity to constructively address important issues.

http://dx.doi.org/10.13033/ijahp.v6i1.194
ER -
